Location of the project

Siaya, the location of our project, and its surroundings are home to around 22,500 people, 58% of which live below the poverty line, numbers rising. Agriculture is the basis of existence in this region. The circumstances of around 30% of the children are disrupted, e.g. they grow up with remaining family members. As a consequence of the prevailing high HIV rate, many parents have died, family structures have been destroyed, and poverty rules.

Siaya County is the administrative county of the Nyanza Province. It is located in the South West of Kenya, around 90 km away from Kisumu, Kenya's third largest city. The eastern shores of Lake Victoria are around 30 km away; Busia County and the Uganda border are located at a distance of around 35 km.
The entire area is situated at an altitude of 1,100 to 1,400 metres above mean sea level. The climate his dry and hot with cool nights. There are two rainy seasons in Siaya, a minor one from October to December and a major one from March until June.

Siaya county has a population of 850,000 inhabitants on a total area of 2,530 km². Around 46.1% are children between the ages of 0 and 14. The city of Siaya has a hospital, a university, schools, is home to the ministries for Health, Education, Urban Development, etc. and is the Governor's official residence.
